The Arcanist: The Literary Fantasy Magazine

I spend my free time acting as Editor-in-Chief for The Arcanist: a lit mag dedicated to the craft of character-driven fantasy. It is a new publication led by students and volunteers. I think you'll enjoy it.

What Lies Below

Tensions between the Great Cities of Kaldea are heating up as decades of hard-kept peace slowly begin to crumble. Old King Henrick of Valencia is no better than a dead man sitting on the throne. His vision of unity is slowly crumbling to the influence of a new faith devoted to Sunlight that has dedicated itself to rooting out the traditions of old.

For people like Iason Tohr, a Keeper of the dead and a devout follower of an old god, the future is uncertain when his home is burned after the murder of his brother-in-law and closest friend. He and his grieving sister are sent to Thornlowe, a derelict estate in the middle of the Darkwood. Set with the task to restore the grounds to its former glory, the siblings have hopes to discover a new beginning after enduring earth-shaking loss.

There are secrets beneath every floorboard of Thornlowe and they are begging to be uncovered. What Lies Below tells a tragic tale of epic fantasy on a personal scale.
